Junior

JUNIORS (7-12ish years)

Once our members reach 7 years old they are eligible for places on the start sailing courses. More information on these can be found on the training pages of the website.

At Ripon we recognise that this age group will learn best through frequent short practice sessions, rather than longer one off courses. As a result the club offers weekly Improvers sessions for junior sailors on Saturday between April and October. During these sessions we offer our young sailors a range of sailing experiences in a mix of boats and allow them to work towards our own Ripon Improvers Fleet awards.

As their skills progress they are encouraged to participate in race coaching on a Sunday morning, providing a supported introduction to club racing, and starting to move into the Ripon race squad award scheme. We recognise that our junior sailors have the most fun when they have friends to sail with and against, so we aim to provide regular Y&J events within the adult club racing framework.

Our more competent juniors are active on the regional or national racing circuit at the weekends and enjoy meeting up with friends from other clubs who they have met as part of the #teamripon environment.
